LAHORE:

A Japanese calendars exhibition started at the Alhamra Art Gallery on the Mall on Tuesday.

The exhibition is showcasing 133 calendars on various themes related to Japanese traditional and contemporary arts, sports, automobiles, nature, architecture and cultural heritage.

A speech delivered in Urdu by Toshikazu Isomura, the counsellor with the Public Affairs Department of the Embassy of Japan, was the highlight of the launch ceremony.

He recalled an earlier visit to the city for studying Urdu at the Punjab University in 1985 and stated that he had since considered himself ‘half Lahori’. He hoped that the exhibition will help the visitors appreciate the culture and traditions of Japanese people.

The exhibition is being organised by the Embassy of Japan in cooperation with the Lahore Arts Council and Pakistan Japan Cultural Association. Earlier, provincial Minister for Women Development Mrs Hameeda Waheeduddin inaugurated the exhibition. The exhibition will remain open for the public till February 10th.
